I've been working with light activations (through guided meditations) for several years now. The entry point for this is within, as it's primarily about your own inner light and how to connect with it. It’s also about shining your light on areas within yourself that were previously inaccessible. This leads to growth in consciousness and a purification on different layers. For me, light work is about strengthening your vertical connection, your own straight line, integrity, and connection with source energy, as well as the horizontal connection through shadow work, relationships with others, the relationship with yourself, and energetic boundaries. It’s about releasing tension, living more radiantly instead of being folded in on yourself.
I know this may sound abstract to many people, so here’s a personal and concrete example of what this can do: Four years ago, I discovered a deep-seated tension in the back of my spine—during a light activation, it was released. I hadn’t realized it was there or that it was so intense. It felt as if a steel bar was removed between my shoulder blades. A lot of sadness was also released during that session, and a series of events from a few years earlier came to mind. After three emotional days, it seemed to pass. What a relief! As a bodyworker, I naturally felt the need to find out which muscle was involved, and I discovered it was the deeper rhomboid muscle, centrally located at the back of the heart chakra. That tension has never returned. Sometimes, I can still feel other points of tension at certain moments, but never that steel bar—I have much more range of motion, and my back feels much looser there.
A light activation will encourage you to expand your consciousness in various ways, of which increased body awareness and the release of physical tensions are just one aspect. It can also allow you to feel or perceive energy, light frequencies, and energy fields differently, release held emotions, provide mental insights, deeply relax you, give you wonderful new sensory experiences, visually stimulate you, inspire you, and much more. I've been so involved with it that I now give my own live light activation during the workshop ‘Working with Your Own Light Field,’ where I also work with specific sound frequencies. However, shining light on denser and darker parts of yourself can also bring considerable discomfort. For me, it happens in phases and is very physical because I live by my own vision and motto: ‘Your body is an intelligent, conscious, and sacred life instrument, fully spirited and a true divine gift on the path of self-development, growing consciousness, ever-deepening love, and brighter light.'
In addition to all this light work, I am also intensely involved in bodywork, which probably gives it an even more physically embodied expression in me. It certainly has its very intense moments, like this past week. A week in which, after a brainspotting session on the root of my trauma, I also completed a whole program of light activations. At times, it felt as if my plexus and diaphragm were on fire—intense pent-up anger and sadness were released. I truly felt I had reached a place I couldn’t access before. The last light activation of that series went very serenely, but afterwards, I became very restless at night with a lot of emotional release, physical tension, and feverish sweats. The next morning, I even had a headache (which I rarely have), a feverish feeling (though technically I didn’t have a fever), and a deep dry cough. The COVID test was negative, and I suspected this was the effect of what had been released after that intense week. That seemed to be true because my recovery was remarkable: after a day of complete rest and a day of rest combined with a cleaning spree, I was back to normal. Then you might naturally wonder why I choose this, right?
Well, in the long run, you get a more relaxed body, a greater understanding of yourself, and therefore much more physical, emotional, and mental freedom. In our society, it’s considered normal that you become less flexible and have poorer posture as you age, etc.—that’s not my experience. In some ways, I’m becoming more flexible and stronger as I age, and I attribute that to this work. Living with more awareness, being more at peace, and having less repressed trauma is really wonderful. You also become increasingly better at supporting yourself and have fewer triggers.
And while it can sometimes lead to very painful insights, these do push you to make choices and take steps for your own good, breaking free from codependent patterns, clearly seeing and understanding who and what you want in your field (and life) and why (and thus also who and what you don't). It sharpens your intuition. It helps you face old trauma, clear it out, and make room for new experiences. Absolutely fascinating!
Warm regards,
